EDUCATION & OUTREACH

The Hong Kong New Music Ensemble’s education and outreach programs have been at the centre of the organisation’s strategy and core mission.

Since its founding in 2008, HKNME aims to provide a platform to educate and inspire the next generation of composers, musicians and audiences.

In Schools

HKNME has collaborated with most of the tertiary institutions in Hong Kong, including with The University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong. The ensemble has also held special workshops in local and international schools.

The Modern Academy

The Modern Academy was a five-year initiative (2014-2018), initially set up as an annual course for contemporary classical music, and eventually evolving into a year-long programme. With major partners the Goethe Institut Hong Kong and the ACDFS (Hong Kong Government), The Modern Academy supported over 200 composers, instrumentalists, singers and conductors over five years.

Emerging Artist Scheme

Offering training and prospective career opportunities to young musicians with a specialist interest in contemporary music has been a key component of Hong Kong New Music Ensemble's strategic vision since its inception. HKNME Emerging Artist Scheme, launched in 2014 and supported by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, is targeted at recently graduated musicians and young professionals, serving as a platform to provide professional level performance opportunities for local emerging musicians each year.
