Paper Boxing

Rita Yung & Wong Chun Hoi (hoi9)

  • Cardboard boxes are ubiquitous in Hong Kong, used for moving, packing and for decluttering our homes – and commonly collected, reused and recycled. What does this accessible and versatile material have to do with music? Composer Rita Yung and visual artist Wong Chun Hoi (hoi9) have created an immersive installation inspired by Hong Kong’s many storage warehouses, using boxes, electronic devices and lighting, accompanied by a composed electronic soundscape supported by musicians from the HKNME. Paper Boxing is part of the Sonic Visual Interplay series.

  • William Lane, viola
    Stephenie Ng, clarinet
    Karina Yau, percussion
    Rita Yung, laptop performer
    Anthony Au, box mover

Where There is Togetherness

Brian Bromberg & Winsome Wong

  • Where There is Togetherness starts from the quietest kernels of sound playing sporadically and separately... gradually the sounds pass through phases of synchronised rhythms and scattered noise. Meanwhile, the projected video traces realist imagery shot over a 6-year period, which is repeatedly re-filmed directly from a computer monitor; culminating in a 19th re-filmed version of abstracted shapes of colour.

Like Water, Like Shadow
